Finally I finished this over-long project. I plant to make a little vignette,but now I tired fot it. Maybe one day i got some new inspiration to make groundwork.

U.S. Special Force DUMVEE - build: 95%

In the last 2 months, I try to finish the building of the DUMVEE. It is almost succeed, just the supportive weapons are missing. I have to say, the Legend conversion set is simply amazing, with full of details and well precision for an advanced modeller. Highly recommended!

Well, my SF operator ask a a DUMVEE for christmas, and i was delighted to hear that ;)

I use the Tamiya M1025 for the base plus i got a Legend conversation set LF1212. The korean factory made fantastic work, all the resin parts are well detailed. I specially love those Super Swamper wheels!
The front and the rear bumper glued on, so the chassis is ready.

U.S. Special Force Figure #1 - build and basecoat

After some WW2 theme i felt i have to make something different. For the new project, i choose Special Force (SF) and a very interesting battlefield, Afghanistan. I plan to make a litttle vignette, but i have to choose one of my number of ideas.

BTW, here is the first figure i am working on. This kit is the Airborne Miniature's 3502 U.S.NAVY SEAL/SF. I remade an old Verlinden head, cause the most popular headwear is the baseball cap. So i sculpt a full cap, beard, and sunglasses for my warrior. That was my first try to scuplt something on a figure, and i have to say i love it! Next time i try to make a complete figure ;)

Pz III/L painting finished

I have finished the painting in 95 %.

The painting has been continued with signals (painted) and numbers (dry decals) applying. I have made the dry brushing on the basic colour with buff as on mending with yellow. I always use artist oils for dry brushing.
( I have never used acryl for dry brushing) When the oils dried, I have mixed two colours for chafing. Either is brighter than basic colour (nearly white), the other is dark (black and brown). I wouldn't have like to make an very rusty vehicle. Therefore I have painted chafing stains wherever was necessary, for example manholes, edges of armor and plates. This has been made with thined acryl paint. With some chafings I have made rusty runoff with oil and dry brushing technic. After all I have started weathering's makings. I used artist oils in tones of brown, MIG pigments (in light and dark tones) and Neutral Wash. I have applied the pigments in pits and corner thined by MIG thiner. Ere it dried fully, I had impregnated with pigment fixer. The upswings have been made by help of brush, artist oil, pigments and airbrush. I have plunged the brush in the thined mix of pigments and oils and blowed out with airbrush on armour. This technic has already known in the face of others. After drying I have applied the track. I have sweated quite a lot, because it hasn't like to set in his tidy place. This piece has got dark tone pigments that has been impregnated with pigment fixer.

Jaboschreck on Steyr 2000 A building 99% finished

I have finished the bulding phase of my Jaboschreck. It was fun to build it, and I have learned a lot from scratchbuilding during this project. Next time I will do some things different. for example Wood not always a good material. In case of vehicles maybe a bit better to use styrol sheet for this purpose. But I think it is a matter of personal taste.
I decided to build the folding roof wich was mentioned in Thomas Anderson's article (wich my main reference was). He mentions in the part of the original vehicle, but finaly he did not built it to his model. And as I noticed the Leadwarrior conversion kit was also based on his model, so it lacks the roof as well.
I have made the frame from evergreen rods, and some parts from tha Tamiya kit, and the tarp was made from epoxy putty.

Many parts are not glued togeather yet because It will be easyer to paint tham seperate.
After I took the pictures I have noticed that I bluetac-ed the windshield backwards, but I will take atention to this when it will be glued permanent.

Now comes the painting phase, what I like tho most!!

Sd.Kfz. 251/1 Ausf.D - part 12: Dry brushing and chip paint

In this stage i made the dry brushing with the camo colors lighter versions, and applied some scratch and wear on the vehicle. (The sandbag is unpainted)
I changed the background of the photos and try to set my camera better...I have to say, i know what will be my christmas gift ;)
Further weathering is on the way, so stay tune!

I have continue the painting with a little leaching. I have done the dark washes on the tank. I used artist oil paint in VanDyck brown colour, that had been thined highly with MIG thinner ( P239). After 5-7 minutes expectation I have washed down the sloshed surfaces with MIG thinner. I left the surfaces here and there more darkly ( in corners, cracks, weld lines ) or more brightly ( armour-plate's area ).

Next missions : to apply the signals, numbers and dry brushing....

Pz III/L painting after building

Dear Visitors,

After little pressure break the Pz III/L project is continue again.

I had been questing long time before I decided for Pz's camo pattern. Many manding appeared from summer of '43 on the eastern front. This Pz was pertaining in strength of Totenkopf where the painting hasn't been accreted yet.This gave me a little free hand in made of camo. ( certainly by right of archive photos )

After building it got a black primer colour. I always use Gunze colors for painting, because that can use well for airbrush painting. Pz's basic colour is Dark Yellow and the staines are USAF green that I brightned with white in different rate.

I have started this model a yer ago, but had a big break in the building phase.
I have now restarted it, and this is the stage where I am now.
The main sections are not glued togeather yet.
I have used the DML Jaboschreck gun whit its own PE. I am not completly satisfied with the kit. Bad fitting, for a DML kit I have expected better. The PE parts are not so well engeneered as the leading PE manufacturers sets but it's do the job.

I laugh and cry at the same time, cause the Argentin team fall out of the WC2010, but my 2nd favorite, the Spanish team won the Cup...olé :)

After some correction on the camo,and painted red primer under the missing parts, i applied the washes at the details like nuts, bolts, lines with MIG's Dark Wash. I used this technik heavily on the lower side of the vehicle. For the decals, i chose different sets from the line of Archers Dry Transfers. That was the first time i used them, i have to learn how does it work perfectly, but i love it, it's so thin :) I seal the whole model with Gunze Flat Clear, luckily, it has not result a total matt surface, just enough to the following dry brushing.

Well, here comes the summer, and the modellers are tempted by other activity out there, so thats why the rarely post :)

But nowdays, between 2 match of the WC2010 - Vamos Argentina - i have some time to go on with my halftrack. The camo, that i research, has been painted on. I used Tamiya colors, cause its a durable base for the next weathering steps. The base color is ligth green, the XF-71 Cockpit Green is almost perfect for the late war german green. The idea to use this color were came from a Phil Stutcinskas article in TMMI 111 (Bergepanther G). Thanks Phil! Next part of the camo were the brown. The XF-68 NATO Brown painted direct from the bottle, cause i think the late war browns were darker than the previous browns. This paint is the best i have ever work with... i dont know why, probably its brand new, so fresh with slightly pigments, it was a dream work :) The light color is rather white than yellow. I mixed XF-2 White with a little bit XF-60 Dark Yellow as i "feel" on the archive photos.

So, the camo is on, and the fun can begin! Please note that the paintwork didnt get the varnish protection, and before it i have to correct little mistakes, but i was so excited to show how it looks like!!!

Sd.Kfz. 251/1 Ausf.D - part 9: Finished the building phase

On this week I just added some little things to the almost completed vehicle. It has got the rear NOTEK light, the antenna mount, the MG bar on the back, and i changed the hooks at the front-side for PE ones. I used some "personal" items onto the halftrack example the shovel, the bucket and the towing cable. The sandbag MG42 "mount" is my old favorite since i saw it on an archive photo.

Well, the building process is nearly at the end, just a few things are missing, which will be on the right place when the figures get the final positions.

Sd.Kfz. 251/1 Ausf.D - part 8: Exterior PE works...

First of all, sorry about the rarely updating, but everybody from the Club has a lot of work and very-very important family activity!!!

On the last week, I found time to make some PE parts on my halftrack. As you can see i dont like the fenders ;) I lost those on both side, but strictly based on archive photos. My first idea was to leave the right one, but i found it too one-sided...so i decided to make damage on the left one as well. The missed sidebox door on the left side is rather life-like as we can check on old photos. I had to make some shooting damage, and open ed door , although, hard to find pics from 251's in action, with opened side-door!

To finish the building process is so close... :)

Sd.Kfz. 251/1 Ausf.D - part 7: The late war camo on 251's

As i promised, i want to show my research about the standard camouflage on the late war 251's. I studied a lot of archive pics from 1945 about 251s and found an interesting thing. Some of them had similar camo schemes, specially notes by the yellow patch ont he sides and the front. The camo-map based on the 251/21 Drilling with full of russians in Torgau, April 1945 (Panzerwrecks X and a videostream). The unidentified patches are from other halftrucks which has the very similar camo as you can see on the assorted photos below. Some things were clear up: green base, not hard edge just very smooth border of the camo, 90% the germans used this scheme on late engine decked vehicle, not 100% same camo on the 251s.

Sd.Kfz. 251/1 Ausf.D - part 6: The interior is done

Finally i could finished the interior last night.

Hans stayed in his position, but just his back show up. I always like those models which has a crew member inside the vehicle with just low visibilaty. For example a driver, who needs a lot of correction of the pose to fit him to the right place. This time the figure has a hard-connection with the vehicle, and i think its more lifelike against as the crew just stand on the top of the tank.

I put some equipment into the side boxes, like the tarp, jerry-can, helmets, panzerfaust, granade-case, canteens.

I use oils and pigments for the weathering effects just softly.

And the time has come, i glued together the upper and the lower parts. I am so excited to painting the camo. By the way camo...as i promised i will show you the camo-map that i drew after studied a lot of photos!!!...soon :)

Figures on the way.
This is the first one. There will be six figures. Most of them in Flora camo, some of them in VSR and "shadow".
The figure was painted with vallejo acrylics, and got some oil wash. It is still far from finished. Russian uniforms oftenly have differences in the shades, so as a modeller it makes easyer to paint it.
In the second Chechen war Flora pattern was more commonly used then VSR but we can find several examples both of tham, amoung other camo patterns. The 6b3 flak vests had this borwnish biege color.

Finally I have finished the vehicle itself. I have tryed to capture the dirty look of these warmachines, seen on the archive photographs. The figures and base will be the next step.

Sd.Kfz. 251/1 Ausf.D - part 5: Painting the interior

Here are 2 shots of the interior, i have worked on, in the last 2 weeks. My modelling speed is too slow in nowdays, so the finish line should be over the next competitions date :(

As You can see, I finished to paint the basecoat, and the other equipment of the vehicle. The next step will be the weathering, like the chip paint, add dirt onto the floor and for the seat, and make some wear on the leather surfaces.

Oh yesss, the base color is green, not ordinary for german halftruck,isn't it?. In the last 2 months I have studied the late war Sd.kfz.251s, and I worked out the camo-map of the factory applied camouflage scheme. I was led to the conclusion, that these vehicle got green for base, so the interior got it too.

Sd.Kfz. 251/1 Ausf.D - part 4: Priming the interior and finished 'Hans'

As for the priming, I always use XF-1 flat black from Tamiya. I try to cover all the surfaces, specially the retired corners, which never get the basecoat and the weatherings, and i think its a good pre-shading technic as well.

I surfed on the Internet last week and i found the real Hans! Yes, its true, he was almost bald, just a little hair on his scruff :) And how bizarr, this photo made in Czech,1945.

And here is the miniature Hans. I didn't paint too much details, he will be just a "supporting actor". The flesh-tones are darker than usual, cause he will sit into the cabin, so I calculated with the light conditions.

The next step is to paint the basecoat of the interior...I take a big breath...pics soon :)

Sd.Kfz. 234/2 PUMA (prologue)

As I was reading the Panzerwrecks 6. I have found a very good photo of a PUMA from the Ardennes campaigne. I decided that I will built it, and I will built it as much as accurate as I can.
Fortunately the book provides information about the unit that it belonged to. So it seem the vehicle was from the Pz.Aufkl.Abt.2 and formed part of " Kampfgruppe von Böhm" during Wacht am Rhein.

This Puma has excellent details and challenges for a modeller. The Dragon kit with the aftermarket upgrade sets should do the trick, and of course some scratch build parts if neccessary.

I have started now the building, so pictures will follow shortly.

BTR-80 Battle of Grozny 1999-2000 (part 2)

I began painting. I have started with primeing the whole vehicle to flat black. The black will help to create shadows in the later stage. I always use Tamiya or Gunze acrylics, because they are create a strong base. I do not like traditional primers, so I don't use tham.

After the primeing I have painted the BTR with valejo acrylics. I used some minor modulation to break the monotonity of the plain green color.

After the modulation I have added the filters with artist oils. And the chipped paint with valejo ss camo black brown.

Next phase will be the painting of the stowage and the mud. Later the figures

Sd.Kfz. 251/1 Ausf.D - part 3: 'Hans' the bald driver

Before the paint-work of the interior, and before i glue together the upper and the lower parts, i had to make the driver. Cause i am a fan of Miniart figures, the base came from the 35054 set. I like the poses, and the foldings of the clothes, those are perfect for my taste. 'Hans' almost fit for the driver's place, I just converted the arms, the hands, and the hip. I had to change the head, for a bald one, cause there are not enough space under the roof (which hold the MG above the driver cab). I did not use any details, because he will not visible too much. So, 'Hans' ready for the "life"...

Sd.Kfz. 251/1 Ausf.D - part 2: the lower part

The winter holiday has given me the chance to start my new project. I began the building process with the lower part of the vehicle, cause i have to paint the interior first. The inside of the halftrack is so puritan, I just use some spare PE parts (e.g.: fire-extinguiser bracket, gasmask and MP-40 holder). I must sand the bench, cause it had too deep wood imitation.

I think everybody knows the famous Pakwagen photo from the Panzerwrecks 2. I love it, its a real veteran. We can note the bald tyre, and hard to believe its still working. I sand the left tyre, and i made some damage on the running surface.

On the front plate there is a hole for the crank. The cap of this hole is usually missed, who cared this little thing in the war!? . I drilled the cap and made the 2 small furrow on the sides. This could be a nice detail on the forepart.

The next step will be the driver, because he have to take a seat before i glue together the lower and the uppert side...

Sd.Kfz. 251/1 Ausf.D - part 1: the new project

Hi Lads!

First of all, we wish you a happy new year, 2010!

New year --> new project :)

When i built the Panzerwefer42 with MG151, i used the drilling from the Dragon 6217. I think the Dragon should call all of the Sd.Kfz. 251 kits as SMART, because we get all the parts to build a simple Sd.Kfz. 251/1 version.

This is my first Sd.Kfz. 251, and i love it! The original vehicle has a graceful-shape and a great engineering with the wheel and track combination. The model is the usual Dragon quality, nice details, but it need extra work cause of the flash. I have a full metal Friul track set for it, and i will use the Voyager bins and fenders. The interior will build out of the box with spare PE parts.

The story behind this vehicle is "under construction", but i am sure it will play in May,1945, probably in Czech territory.

One more thing, this model will not base on a real vehicle,but who knows!? I will try to catch little details from a lot of original photos, and i want to show, how can a modeller take inspiration from period pics.

The Crimean War and the Siege Of Sevastopol

The Crimean War (October 1853 - February 1856) was fought between the Russian Empire on one side and an alliance of the British Empire, France, the Ottoman Empire and the Kingdom of Sardinia on the other. The war was part of a long-running contest between the major European powers for influence over territories of the declining Ottoman Empire. Most of the conflict took place on the Crimean Peninsula, but there were smaller campaigns in western Turkey, the Baltic Sea, the Pacific Ocean and the White Sea.

In September 1854, Allied troops (British, French and Turkish) landed in the Crimea and besieged the city of Sevastopol, home of the Tsar's Black Sea Fleet which threatened the Mediterranean. The city was captured in September 9, 1855, after about a year-long siege.

The Crimean War is notorious for the logistical and tactical mistakes that plagued both sides. Nonetheless, the war is sometimes considered to be the first modern conflict as it introduced technical changes which affected the future course of warfare, including the first tactical use of railways and the telegraph. It is also famous for the work of Florence Nightingale, who pioneered modern nursing practices while caring for wounded British soldiers. The Crimean War was the first war to be extensively documented in photographs.

Leo Tolstoy wrote a few short sketches on the Siege of Sevastopol, collected in The Sebastopol Sketches. The stories detail the lives of the Russian soldiers and citizens in Sevastopol during the siege. Because of this work, Tolstoy has been called the world's first war correspondent.

The kit consists of 5 white metal parts, all pieces are cast to a high quality and the detail in each piece is excellent, very minimal seam lines and no flash. All the parts of the kit are sandwiched between two layers of high density foam in a sturdy cardboard box. A very nice kit for anyone who is interested in this era of history and very well priced.

MG151/20 auf Panzerwerfer42

I think, nowadays the modellers have to choose some interesting and not usual, "boring" theme to attract attention.

I always love the Czech 1945 theme, so its not surprising, that i choose this strange one.

This is a modified Panzerwerfer 42 Nebelwerfer to 8cm Raketen Vielfachwerfer (note the box behind the front wheel and the bar on the top of the cabin), after that the vehicle got my favorite weapon MG151/20 drilling.

The base is the old Italeri kit. I hope the Dragon will put this vehicle on the new kit list.

I used the following upgrades: Voyager PE, Hussar wheels, Friul track, Royal Model upgrade, Dragon Drilling, and some scratch build.

At the end of the building phase i would like to say thanks for the helps to Attila Baranyai, Denes Benedek, Szabolcs Varga and last but very not least Aron Vrbovszki. The paintwork will start in the next year, cause I will get more info about this vehicle later from a Czech book.

Panzer IV Ausf. J early

Panzer IV Ausf. J early - 5th SS Panzer Division 'Wiking' - Poland Autumn 1944. - 1:35

This Panzer IV was produced early 1944. It has saw lot's of battles. It has battle damage all over and it is equpied with the wide Ostketten as the veteran crew know how useful it can be on the eastern front...

This model was a major milestone in my modeling. This was my most upgraded modell with the most work spent on. I wanted to show corretcly as much detail as I can. The base kit is Tamiya, with five ABER PE sets, Friul tracks, moskit muffler, Armorscale Gun barrel, Tristar workable running gear and CMK interrior kit.
The turret skirts where a real horror to build, but despite that I liked every moment of the building and painting.

My Stug 3 Ausf.G based on a photo, which made in Maaseik, Belgium, 1944.

Probably this tank was belong to the 10.SS Pz. Div. "Fründsberg". To copied the damages was a big challenge for me, but i did it, BTW to finished it took about 20 months. Huhh, it was not a speed modelling ;)

The Gaz-66 is a russian beauty, every ex-communist country used it in big number. My truck was a great experience, and i tried a lot of technik specially on the cabin. One day it could be a part of a little vignette...

This Sd.Kfz.250/8 Stummel was inspirated by Mirko Bayerl's same model. The vignette show a peaceful moment in March,1945, when the 6th Pz.Div fought around the Balaton (the hungarian sea). Note the typical hungarian dog, called Puli :)

BTR-80 Battle of Grozny 1999-2000 (prologue)

The 1999-2000 Battle of Grozny was the siege of the Chechen capital Grozny by Russian forces, lasting from late 1999 to early 2000. The siege and fighting left the capital devastated like no other European city since World War II. In 2003 the United Nations called Grozny The most destroyed city on Earth.

This is the old Zvezda kit with eduard PE and custom resin wheels. The excellent figures are from MasterClub.

However this model is much more to me than the materials listed above. It represents a kind of symbol of the fightings, and a tribute to those brave men who fight and died there, on the land of death.

Mi négyen - Gaál László, Illés Béla, Illés János, Vrbovszki Áron - 2007-ben alapítottuk meg a SunCity Modelling Club-ot, Szegeden. Kisebb kihagyás után ismét összeálltunk és újult erővel vetjük bele magukat egy friss projektbe. Nem, ez nem egy újabb közös dioráma ötlet, amit már annyiszor megterveztünk, hanem egy klub-blog. Mind a négyen frissíthetjük az oldalt, így remélhetőleg elég sűrűn újul meg a tartalom, és érdemes lesz minden nap benézni hozzánk.
